Well, what was it?
IT'S A "BB" FROM AN AIR GUN. An air gun fires a round steel
projectile with relative small force. It can, however, do serious harm
to eyes or pierce the skin, which is what happened in this case. The 14
year old male got shot by accident and thought that he had only received
a swollen lip and forgot about it after the swelling receded. It was discovered
in routine orthodontic records and removed surgically without incident.
Many people had the correct answer so we selected the winner at random
from those. We truly appreciate the responses we received from all over
the world! ALL CORRECT ENTRIES WERE ELIGIBLE TO WIN! ........and be
assured that your e-mail addresses are used only for the purposes of this
contest.
Here are some interesting comments and some wrong but good answers:
- "Bondable button"
- "Object introduced through the nose"
- "Attachment to pierced lip ring" or "to nose ring"
- "Pencil lead"
- "Implant"
- "Calcified cyst"
- "Metal ball placed in extraction site"
- "Shotgun pellet"
- "It's a BB from a pellet gun. I had the same finding only the
pellet was in the orbit.... On further enquiry the patient a 13 year old
boy, admitted he was playing with a BB gun and was shot in the eye. The
pellet entered the outer canthus and travelled along the globe of the eye,
bluntly dissecting its way into the periobital tissue. Minimal trauma,
no infection, and only mild irritation to the patient. He survived the
trauma, but his father nearly killed him!"
- And probably the funniest:
- "It's a 4.5 mm BB. Shot from a BB gun when kids are playing.
It would be stupid to try to commit suicide with a BB gun!"
OK, What is it? And, better yet, how did it get there?
