Bonding to a Composite Restoration or
an Acrylic Jacket
By Scott Hudson
Bonding to a composite restoration or an acrylic jacket
can be done successfully with the proper technique and chemicals. We will
show you how to properly bond to a composite or plastic surface step by
step.
- Preparation: First roughen the surface to be bonded with
a medium diamond bur. If enamel is present and part of the bonding surface,
etch the enamel for 30 seconds. Rinse with copious amount of water and
dry thoroughly.
- Using a sponge pellet or brush, mix and apply several
coats of Enhance Adhesion Booster to the surface according to instructions.
If Enhance is not available, Reliance Plastic Conditioner can be applied
according to the instructions.
- If Phase II, Excel or Light Bond is the adhesive of choice,
apply the Sealant to the conditioned surface and the Paste to the bracket.
Seat the bracket on the tooth and position. If Rely a Bond is used apply
the Rely a Bond Primer to the conditioned surface and the bracket base.
Apply Rely a Bond Paste to the bracket and seat and position on the tooth.
Following these instructions will assure consistent success
when bonding to acrylic jackets or composite restorations.
