Bonding to Porcelain Crowns Using Reliance Products
By Scott Hudson
Bonding to Porcelain Crowns...The Technique
Products required: Reliance Porc-EtchTM and Porcelain
Conditioner.
Phase II, Rely-a-Bond, Light Bond, and Phase II Dual Cure can all be
used with this procedure.
- With a"green stone" or "Micro Etcher", lightly
roughen the crown where the bracket is to be placed.
- Reliance Porc-Etch: Take the "barrier gel" that is supplied with the
Porc Etch and place a small continuous "bead" along the gingival
margin. Using a brush or sponge pellet, apply a small drop of Porc Etch
to the area where the bracket is to be placed. Allow this to remain on
the surface for (2) minutes. Wipe the drop of Porc Etch off with a cotton
roll or gauze pad. After you have removed the Porc Etch, place the suction
tube at the crown and rinse directly into the suction tip. Dry and isolate.
- Reliance Porcelain Conditioner: Using a brush or sponge pellet,
apply a liberal coat of Porcelain Conditioner to the crown. Allow this
to remain on the surface for (1) MINUTE. DO NOT RINSE!
- If you are bonding with Rely a Bond, place a thin coat of Rely a Bond
Primer on the bracket base and crown. Place Rely a Bond paste on the bracket
base and seat the bracket. If Phase II or Excel is used, mix the A &
B Sealant and apply to the crown. Mix the A & B Paste, apply to
the bracket base and seat. If Light Bond is used place a thin coat of Sealant
on the crown, place the Paste on the bracket base and seat the bracket.
Light cure.
Use caution with Porc Etch. This is
a 9% solution of hydrofluoric acid and can burn soft tissue. A rubber dam
is suggested!
